Climbing Classes

Intro to Climbing

Perfect for first time climbers and newer climbers looking to master the basics. This class covers skills, techniques, and vocabulary to help take your climbing to the next level.

$20/member, 35/non-member. Dates coming soon.


Details:

Know nothing about climbing? We have you covered! New to climbing and ready for some guided instruction? We're ready for you, too! With a maximum of 6 students, class is sure to cater to your skill set. Through demonstration and practice, you’ll learn the foundations of climbing technique, including helpful beginner tips and tricks. 


Equipment rental (shoes and harness) included. Please wear comfortable clothing with good mobility. Pants and layers are recommended. 


Participants must be at least 14 years old.

If this is your first time at our location, please arrive 15 minutes early to complete the check-in process and facility tour.

Top Rope Belay Basics

Learn to tie-in and top rope belay from one of our certified AMGA Climbing Wall Instructors.

$25/member, $35/non-member. Tuesdays from 6:00p-8:00p.


This class will teach and practice safely and efficiently managing rope to protect the fall of a climber on top rope. Rental gear is included in this class. 


Process:

  • Tying a figure-8 follow through
  • Loading the (tube style) belay device
  • Partner checks
  • PBUS belay technique
  • Climbing commands

Intro to Lead Belay and Lead Climbing

This class will introduce and practice the introductory skills to correctly and efficiently lead climb and lead belay with a tube-style belay device.

$55 for the first class. Take the class a second time for free. Mondays from 6:00p - 9:00p.

Taught by an AMGA Climbing Wall Instructor. 

Personal climbing gear (harness and belay device) recommended.

Gym to Crag: Anchor Cleaning

NOT CURRENTLY OFFERING
Learn how to retrieve equipment at the end of a climb by lowering back down to the ground.

$35/members, $50 non-members. Every other Tuesday from 7:00p - 9:00p.


The clinic will start with a demonstration of the technique. 

Next, the technique will be demonstrated slowly, explaining each step. 

Third, the class will take turns practicing with tips and tricks from the instructor(s).

Get Outside! Presentation

Missouri and Arkansas have lots to offer for new and experienced outdoor climbers alike. Learn about area ethics, access, and which crags have the climbs you’re looking for. 

Leave No Trace for the Outdoor Climber

Join RoKC Staff Member and LNT Master Educator, Michaela Phoenix, as she guides you through the 7 principles of Leave No Trace and how they apply directly to outdoor climbing ethics.

Rappelling

Learn to clean anchors via rappel with a third hand backup. Learn why you might want to clean anchors by rappel rather than via lower. Feel free to come to class with questions about other rappelling scenarios.

Intro to Anchoring

Learn how to evaluate and practice setting up anchor rigging for a two-point, bolted anchor. This course uses the NERDSS analysis for evaluation and goes in depth to the strengths and weaknesses of various anchor rigging techniques including quickdraws, sliding-x, cordalette, and the quad. 

Advanced Anchoring

This course builds on the skills taught in Intro to Anchoring and assumes a working knowledge of the cordalette, sliding-x, and quad on two-point anchors, building on those skills and the NERDSS analysis to build 1, 3, and 4 point anchors as might be used when top roping or trad climbing. 

Self Rescue

This Self Rescue course will focus on top rope rescue skills including:

- weighted and unweighted belay takeovers

- ascending the rope to the climber

- rappelling back down with the climber

This class does not cover self rescue in a lead scenario.

Join us for an all-levels functional fitness class to round out your routine.

This is a 50 minute class based on functional fitness, featuring segments on strength, core, conditioning, and mobility. Becca Goetz "My philosophy on exercise is that it should be something you look forward to, something you enjoy doing. Kyle Wilson "I have knowledge and experience in multiple strength programs such as Juggernaut, Linear, 5-3-1, Texas Method and Max Effort. Youth Programs

Recreational Climbing Club

Recreational Climbing Club focuses on children who are interested in learning to climb or already enjoy the sport. The semester is designed for kids to become proficient with basic climbing movement, techniques, teamwork and simply have fun! No climbing experience necessary.

Program Details:

  • Ages: 8 - 13yrs
  • This is a 8-week program.
  • Club meets Monday or Wednesday
  • Time: 4:30-6:00pm
  • Instructed by RoKC Youth Coaches (1:6 coach to climber ratio)
  • Maximum 12 climbers
  • Cost: $240 per 8-week session. Price includes Club registration and full membership for the duration of the program.

What's Included:

  • Club includes gym membership- minors must be accompanied by an adult during Open Gym hours
  • Membership includes shoes and harness rentals
  • Climbers get one guest pass per month
  • End of the semester celebration on the last night of club!

Advanced Climbing Club

The Advanced Climbing Club focuses on children who are very interested in climbing and potentially want to join the Climbing Team. The semester is designed for kids to become proficient with basic and advanced climbing movement, techniques, risk management, and teamwork.

Some climbing experience is recommended, but motivation is the main ingredient for a kiddo to love the Advanced Climbing Club. The semester is designed for kids to become proficient with basic and advanced climbing movements, techniques, risk management, and teamwork. Along with this, every practice concludes with simple strength conditioning to teach self-discipline and personal growth. Youth climbers who show focus, maturity, and the will to continually improve may be invited to try out for the RoKC Competitive Climbing Team.


Program Details:

  • Ages: 8 - 13yrs
  • This is a 8-week program.
  • Club meets Tuesday and Thursday
  • Time: 4:30-6:30pm
  • Instructed by RoKC Youth Coaches (1:6 coach to climber ratio)
  • Max 12 climbers
  • Cost: $360 per 8-week session, gear rentals are an additional $40 per session. Price includes Club registration and full membership for the duration of the program.

High School Climbing Club

Competitive Youth Climbing Team

Our competitive team is for young climbers who are dedicated to improving. The team practices three nights a week year round and travels to competitions throughout the region. There are no age limits, but we do expect a high level of commitment and focus.

RoKC’s competitive climbing team travels to competitions across the midwest, having sent climbers to regionals and nationals every year since its inception. Climbers are expected to have basic knowledge and climbing experience, though all levels are welcome. Team has structured practice three times a week. They practice for tall climbing competitions in the spring and bouldering competitions in the fall. Competitions are optional, but encouraged.

Parent's Night Out

Take the night off - we'll entertain the kids. 5:00-9:00pm on select Saturdays.

Take a break and bring the kids to RoKC for a night of adventure! Our youth instructors will lead climbing, games, arts and crafts, and a pizza party. Parent's Night Out is available on select Saturdays for children ages 4-12.

$30/child includes climbing, rental gear, snacks, dinner, and fun! For discount inquiries, contact youth@climbkc.com.

Summer Camp


At Camp RoKC: no two weeks are the same! Your camper will climb tall walls, play fun games, make great friends and learn new skills!  Led by our RoKC Youth Coaches, young climbers learn teamwork, problem-solving, and experience an increase in confidence and self-efficacy in climbing. The fun is just a bonus! Our age-appropriate programs always push climbers to new heights.

- The minimum enrollment to run summer camp is 4 children for Ages 4-6 camp and 6 kids for all other camps. If enrollment is below 4 or 6 we can either refund your payment or schedule you for a later camp.

Drop-off/Pick-up

Check-in begins 10 minutes prior to the start of summer camp. Please do not drop off your climber any earlier as staff will not be available to watch them. Please also be on time to pick up your child as staff will not be available to watch them once camp is over.

High School Leadership Camp

School's Out!

School's Out! runs from 8:00-11:00am on select holidays throughout the year. The program includes three hours of games and climbing led by our youth coaching staff.
